Rumor: Apple will release new version Airpods in Q1 2019
A new version of the Airpods will reportedly be released in the first quarter of 2019. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the in-ear headphones can be charged wirelessly and will support Bluetooth 5.0.
In a note from Kuo, seen by AppleInsider, the analyst mentions a number of specifications that the new generation of Airpods would receive. In addition to bluetooth 5.0 and the option to charge the earbuds completely wirelessly, they will probably also have a new W-series chip. It is not certain whether these are the splash-proof Airpods that the rumors from February this year are about.
Kuo labels the upgrade as ‘relatively small’ and also mentions in the note the arrival of a completely new version of the Airpods, which he says will be released in 2020. These Airpods are reportedly getting ‘a completely new design’ and should replace the first generation. Kuo did not say in what ways these successors offer improvements compared to the current Airpods.
