Rumor: Apple will present Apple TV with App Store and Siri in June

Apple plans to launch a new version of its Apple TV set-top box in June, according to Buzzfeed. It has an App Store on board and can therefore run third-party apps. The next Apple TV is also rumored to have support for Siri voice assistant.

The next Apple TV would run on an Apple A8-soc or a derivative thereof, Buzzfeed reports. The storage memory will also be significantly larger than the 8GB of the variant from 2012, also to provide space for apps. Those apps can be installed by users from the App Store. According to the site, Apple would also show an SDK to developers in June to make those apps.

The set-top box should come to the market together with Apple’s own streaming service, about which a rumor surfaced last week. Americans could watch 25 channels via this service. Whether the new Apple TV will be on sale in countries where the service does not work is unknown.

With the new Apple TV, the manufacturer wants to play a greater role in the field of household electronics and home automation. The Cupertino company already has an SDK for home automation with HomeKit, which works in conjunction with the iOS mobile operating system. Apple recently lowered the price of its current set-top box.
