Rumor: Apple will eventually come with a subscription for games
According to the American broadcasting company Cheddar, Apple is planning a subscription service for games. The service, which would not be far in the development phase, would become a kind of Netflix for games.
Cheddar says this information was obtained from five people familiar with the subject. Apple is reported to have started talks with game developers in the second half of 2018.
According to two sources, who say they are aware of the talks, Apple has also discussed acting as a publisher in conjunction with the developers. Cheddar said an Apple spokesperson declined to comment.
It is not yet clear how much the subscription service will cost and which games Apple wants to offer. The service is said to be in an early development phase, so it is still unclear if and when the service will be released.
Apple would also release a TV subscription service this year, The Information reported in October last year. Behind the scenes, Apple has been working on the production of its own series for some time, in which the company is said to invest a billion dollars. In the summer of last year, there was also a rumor that Apple is considering a single subscription for series, music, and news and magazine articles.
