Rumor: Apple wants Siri to work with more applications
Apple is said to have plans to significantly expand its Siri speech and information service, including by making the software work better with more external applications. It probably wants to be able to compete better with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
This is reported by Reuters news agency citing unnamed sources. Apple is said to be planning to announce its Siri innovations at the WWDC developer conference. It will be held next week in San Jose, California. The intention is that Apple then announces that Siri can now work better with applications from others, according to Reuters.
Apple probably wants to be able to compete better with Google and Amazon by expanding Siri. Both companies’ voice and information services have expanded support for third-party apps. By expanding the categories of applications Siri can work with, the service could also gain more functionality. For example, it is not yet possible to order food via Siri.
Earlier rumors have already suggested that Apple is probably working on a smart speaker that supports Siri. This speaker would have virtual surround sound. With this too, Apple would like to offer a competitive product for Google and Amazon, who already offer a similar product with the Home and the Echo.
