Rumor: Apple uses Force Touch in iPhone for shortcuts

Apple will use Force Touch on the iPhone 6s as a shortcut to certain options in apps, rather than as a way to show more options like on the Apple Watch. This is reported by the generally well-established site 9to5 Mac.

For example, it should be possible to press hard on a certain place in the Maps app, after which the app immediately starts navigation, 9to5 Mac mentions. In Music, a Force Touch leads to a menu to put a song in a playlist or save it offline.

In addition, Apple will use Force Touch as it does on MacBooks. For example, a preview of a site should appear with a Force Touch on a link in Safari. Apple is also testing the function to direct the user directly to a specific place in the app with a Force Touch on an icon on the home screen, such as to the voicemail tab in the Phone app.

Force Touch requires a pressure-sensitive touchscreen and is therefore not possible in older iPhone models. There have been rumors for months about the presence of Force Touch in the next iPhone, which is widely believed to be called iPhone 6s.
