Rumor: Apple uses dual camera in iPhone 7 Plus for post-zooming

Apple would like to use the dual camera in the Plus version of the next iPhone to let users zoom in on photos afterwards. That says the reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on the eve of the announcement of the next iPhone.

Kuo claims that the dual camera of the alleged iPhone 7 Plus will be assisted by four LED flashes, two with a warmer color temperature and two with a cooler one. One camera has a wide-angle lens to capture more of the image, the other has a much narrower image. Combining information from both images would allow users to zoom in afterwards without losing detail or resolution. The implementation of the dual camera is partly the result of the acquisition of a maker of such modules last year.

Apple is far from the first to enable such an implementation or feature. The LG G5 also has two cameras, one with a wide-angle lens. Zooming in afterwards was already possible three years ago with the Lumia 1020 from Nokia, which captures a file in a high resolution to make that function possible. Previously, specs have come out that indicate that it concerns two 1/3″ modules in the iPhone 7 Plus, as opposed to the single 1/2.6″ sensor in the smaller iPhone 7.

Kuo claims in the report that 9to5Mac writes, among other things, that Apple releases the new iPhones in five colors. The gray version is disappearing, in favor of a matte black version. A glossy black version is also available. The variants have a circulation of 32GB, 128GB and 256GB, according to the analyst. Apple also replaces the physical Home button for a touch-sensitive one.

Apple is holding an event on Wednesday, where it will most likely showcase the new versions of the iPhone and Apple Watch. The release in stores in Germany and France often follows a week and a half later, with a release in the Benelux usually one to a few weeks later.
