Rumor: Apple to unveil new MacBooks at WWDC in June
Bloomberg reports that Apple will showcase several new MacBooks at its WWDC developer conference in June. The MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air may also receive an upgrade.
That writes journalist Mark Gurman, who regularly releases information about Apple announcements early. His sources have told him that Apple is announcing new MacBook Pro models with Kaby Lake processors. It would mainly concern internal changes, changes to the appearance are not expected. References to MacBook Pro laptops with Kaby Lake processors appeared in a beta of macOS in February.
In addition, there would be a new version of the 12″ MacBook, with a faster processor. The current models have a Core m3 or m5 processor of the Skylake generation. It is not clear which processor would find its way to a new model, but presumably that will remain an economical model with a tdp of 4.5 watts so that passive cooling is possible.
Apple would also consider releasing a new version of the 13″ MacBook Air. No faster model of the Air has been released since 2015. It seemed that Apple would stop with the Air line, but the cheapest MacBook is still selling, according to Bloomberg very good.
At the beginning of this year, there were rumors of the arrival of an ARM chip to MacBooks, which will be placed next to the Intel processor and responsible for light tasks. Gurman says he is not sure whether the chip will be used in the coming models.
The announcement of the new MacBooks would take place at Apple’s developer conference WWDC, whose keynote will take place on June 5. Apple doesn’t always show hardware at its developer event. The last time that happened was in 2013. This year, however, there are multiple indications of introductions; Apple may also show a Siri speaker.
