According to information from Apple insider Mark Gurman, Apple is working on wireless over-ear headphones with noise canceling that should offer high sound quality. There have been rumors about such an Apple product before.

Gurman writes on Bloomberg, citing sources with knowledge of Apple’s plans, that the release could be at the end of the year, but there could still be a delay. There is also a chance that the design will be completely changed before release or that the project will be scrapped altogether, the sources said. About the wireless properties, they say that they resemble those of the AirPods. Apple declined to comment on the rumors to Bloomberg.

Gurman’s information follows similar rumors emanating from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He recently said in an interview with Apple Insider that the Cupertino company wants to release its own over-ear headphones in the fourth quarter of this year. Kuo did not explicitly say whether it concerns wireless headphones. He only stated that the product should “combine the convenience of the AirPods with better sound quality.”

The AirPods are Apple’s current wireless earbuds that work with Bluetooth. In addition, the company introduced its own speaker under the name HomePod. An over-ear headphone therefore seems a logical addition to this offer. Gurman wrote at the end of February that Apple is working on a new variant of the AirPods, which should be splash-proof and with which Siri can be called up without touching.
