According to the American TV channel CNBC, Apple is working with experts on a way to measure blood sugar levels through the skin with an optical sensor. Until now, methods of measuring blood sugars required piercing the skin.

The sensor for measuring glucose levels in the blood is not yet developed enough to appear in the Apple Watch soon, but the American company is already conducting experiments outside its headquarters to map its feasibility and is hiring consultants to look at it. what permission is needed from government agencies, CNBC reports.

That indicates that Apple has not yet succeeded in making the sensor work reliably enough to put it in a watch, but the manufacturer sees enough good in the project to continue with it. Biomedical industry engineers work in an office building in Palo Alto, isolated from the rest of Apple, on the secret project, the TV station reports.

A glucose meter that can work optically could help patients with diabetes, because glucose levels can be measured throughout the day and without punctures. This is not the first time that the Apple Watch has been associated with medical applications. Earlier, it was rumored that the hardware company had scrapped a blood pressure monitor for use in the watch.

So far, Apple focuses its watch on sports and fitness. In the latest version, Series 2, the American company added waterproofing and GPS to the watch, among other things, in order to better keep track of data during all kinds of sports.
