Rumor: Apple is turning off services like App Store for old OS versions
Apple would turn off services like the App Store, Siri and Maps on devices running old operating systems like iOS 11.2.6 and watchOS 4.2.3. Macs running certain versions of High Sierra would also need to update to keep the services running.
According to Stella Fudge Apple shuts down services in early May. This includes devices running tvOS 11 to 11.2.6. It concerns operating systems from 2017. Users of those devices will receive a notification before that happens. Apple already has one help document online in case people get that notification.
The services that will go offline include the App Store, Siri and Maps, Apple says. According to StellaFudge, this concerns all Apple services except iCloud. It is unknown why Apple will take that step. The manufacturer itself has not yet said anything about it.
Update, Thursday: All OS versions are not the latest supported versions for all devices. Users of devices on those versions can therefore update to a newer version to maintain access to the services. That was not initially stated in the article. That should have been in there. Our apologies.
