Rumor: Apple is thinking about delaying iPhones with 5G
Apple is said to be considering postponing the release of the next generation of iPhones, according to a new rumor. Due to the outbreak of the new corona virus, the phone might not be as big a sales success as Apple hopes when it’s planned for release in September.
Apple would like to make a decision in May about possibly delaying the 5G models, Nikkei Asian Review reports citing three sources. Suppliers are said to have had no word yet about a possible postponement of the ‘iPhone 12’ phones. Apple would have several reasons for the delay. For example, the development would be more difficult, because many Apple employees work from home. Suppliers in China, among others, have also experienced delays due to the outbreak of the corona virus. In addition, the iPhones may receive less attention in September if the outbreak in the US and Europe is still in full swing.
All options would still be open. For example, they could still be released in September, but they could also only be on the market in 2021. It has happened before that Apple released iPhone models later than the usual September release. For example, the iPhone X was released in early November in 2017, while the XR was released in late October in 2018.
Rumors about the upcoming iPhones have been circulating for months. It would be at least three different models with 5G, with screens ranging from 5.42″ to 6.67″. Apple has not responded to the rumors of a possible postponement of the iPhones with 5G.
