Rumor: Apple is still working on reverse wireless charging on iPhones
Apple is said to still be working on reverse wireless charging on iPhones. The company has been implementing the feature for years, but determining the correct charging speeds and dissipating heat, among other things, are reasons why the feature is not yet on iPhones.
Apple had wanted to introduce the feature on the iPhone 14 Pro models, but the work was not done in time, says 9to5Mac. The engineers mainly encounter problems in determining the correct charging speed for reverse wireless charging. Dissipating the heat generated during charging would also pose a problem. It is unknown when the feature will be ready.
In addition, Apple is working on the user interface, including parts of iOS that tell and teach users about the function and sounds to indicate that wireless charging has started or stopped.
Reverse wireless charging on smartphones allows users to charge other devices by placing them on the back of a phone. They then receive power via the coil on the back of the smartphone. The iPhone 12 already had the hardware on board for reverse wireless charging. The function has been on Android smartphones for some time: the Huawei Mate 20 Pro from 2018 was the first smartphone to have the function on board.
