Rumor: Apple is building music recognition Shazam in iOS
Apple is rumored to be building Shazam’s music recognition feature in iOS. For example, the integration could allow digital assistant Siri to recognize music without the need for a third-party app.
By building in Shazam’s functionality, Siri could recognize which song is playing and look up details about that song, Bloomberg news agency reports citing two anonymous sources. The integration would work without the need for Shazam’s app. Shazam already works as an app on iOS.
Apple seems to be increasingly integrating the functionality of well-known third-party apps into iOS. Previously, this happened with Twitter, Siri and Facebook. The feature will likely be part of iOS 8, the next major release of Apple’s mobile operating system.
Apple would not be the first with the function to recognize music via the digital assistant: Microsoft has built it into Cortana for Windows Phone 8.1, while it has been a function in Google Now for Android and Bing for Windows Phone for some time.
