Rumor: AMD to release Godavari apus in May

AMD will release Godavari-generation APUs in May, Digitimes claims based on sources from Taiwanese suppliers. It is probably a re-release of the current Kaveri apus with higher clock speeds. AMD declined to comment on the rumor.

Godavari is said to be a re-release of the current Kaveri apus. Like Kaveri, the processors with built-in GPUs are baked at 28nm and fit in socket fm2+. The processing unit features the same Steamroller processor cores and Graphics Core Next GPU architecture. Any speed increases must therefore mainly arise from a higher clock speed.

Reports about the processors have already appeared on the internet before. For example, on the Asrock site there is a bios update that should make one of the current fm2+ motherboards suitable for the new processors. VR-Zone even got a table that would contain the specifications of the new processors. The top model, the overclockable A10-8850K, would default to 3.7GHz, with a boost to 4.1GHz. This would increase the boost speed by 100MHz compared to the current top model, the A10-7850K, while the normal clock speed would remain unchanged. The built-in GPU would have been increased from 720MHz to 856MHz.

For the generation of APUs after Godavari, called Summit Ridge, AMD would like to switch to the 14nm process, according to Digitimes. Those chips should be produced in 2016 at the factories of Samsung and Globalfoundries. The Bristol Ridge models for the mainstream market and the Raven Ridge series due to be introduced in 2017 should also come from those factories, according to Digitimes sources.
