Rumor: AMD to introduce Radeon RX 6000 refresh with faster memory in April
AMD may release new RDNA 2 desktop graphics cards in the Radeon RX 6000 series in April. According to a well-known leaker, the company is coming with three new models with faster memory. There have been rumors for some time about such an RX 6000 refresh.
Enthusiastic Citizen writes on the Chinese Chiphell forum that AMD will announce the new RX 6000 video cards on April 20 or 21. That leaker more often shares correct information about unannounced hardware, although he or she usually focuses on CPUs, VideoCardz writes. Enthusiastic Citizen states that AMD will come with three different video cards: a Radeon RX 6950 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6650 XT.
The three GPUs would be equipped with faster GDDR6 modules at 18Gbit/s, while the current video cards have 16Gbit/s memory. Performance has also “improved slightly,” according to Enthusiastic Citizen, but the leaker doesn’t clarify what that means. The cards would otherwise be slightly more expensive than their current counterparts. The leaker also seems to suggest that the RX 6400 will be released separately. Currently that GPU is only available for OEMs.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about an RX 6000 refresh for desktops. Leaker Greymon55 wrote on Twitter that the highest-ranking RX 6950 XT could get a boost clock of over 2.5GHz. That suggests that, in addition to the faster memory, the cards will also have higher clock speeds than the current models, although that has not yet been confirmed.
