Rumor: AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 to be the first 6nm GPUs
The Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 from AMD may be the first GPUs to be produced at 6nm. That tells an anonymous source to VideoCardz. The graphics cards are expected to be released on January 19. The RX 6400 would be for OEMs only.
The information comes from Disclosuzen, VideoCardz writes. That source more often shares AMD information with that medium. The Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 would get a Navi 24-gpu based on the RDNA2 architecture. The source does not share which foundry produces the GPUs at 6nm, but it is likely that this concerns TSMC. The manufacturer’s N6 node is an improved version of its 7nm process, on which the current Radeon RX 6000 video cards are produced. TSMC previously reported that chip designs now made on TSMC’s 7nm process can easily be ported to its 6nm node.
Furthermore, the memory bandwidths of the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 would be 232GB/s and 216GB/s, respectively, when including Infinity Cache. It is unknown what the bandwidths are without Infinity Cache, but VideoCardz speculates that that amounts to 128GB/s for the RX 6500 XT and 112GB/s for the RX6400. Furthermore, the RX 6500 XT will have a dualslot design with a total board power of 107W. With the RX 6400 this is 53W. According to VideoCardz, that GPU will have a dualslot design.
AMD is expected to announce the Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 at CES. The company will hold a keynote on January 4. New Threadripper PRO 5000 CPUs are also expected. AMD may also share more information about its upcoming Ryzen consumer processors with 3D V cache on January 4.
