Rumor: AMD and MSI release bundles with Ryzen CPU, motherboard and video card
Images have appeared online of so-called Combat Crates. These are packages with a Ryzen CPU and a video card with AMD GPU in combination with a matching motherboard. The latter two come from MSI.
The images are published by Videocardz and show a box that would contain a Ryzen 7 1700 CPU, an MSI Radeon RX 580 Armor graphics card with 8GB and an MSI B350 Tomahawk AM4 motherboard. It is unclear what this combination will cost. According to the site, there is also a variant of the pack with a Ryzen 5 1600 CPU. The inscription on the box shows that AMD is targeting gamers with the combination and wants to offer them ‘essential hardware’.
It is conceivable that AMD will also release such combinations with other manufacturers, if in the current case it concerns an actual product. The company recently removed some of its first-generation Ryzen CPUs from its price list, although the Ryzen 5 1600 is still among them. However, the Ryzen 7 1700 is no longer included in the list. Videocardz speculates that the ‘combat crates’ are a way to market first-generation processors.
The same would be true for the B350 motherboards, with B450 variants expected later this year. Manufacturers recently unveiled the first X470 motherboards with 400 series chipsets for second-generation Ryzen processors. In that generation, there are so far four models available: the Ryzen 7 2700X, 2700 and the Ryzen 5 2600X and 2600.
