Rumor: Amazon was considering making multiple Alexa wearables for kids
Amazon considered making multiple wearables aimed at 4- to 12-year-old children in mid-2019. At least one wearable would get voice control via Alexa and give the kids access to kid-focused content. Parents could also talk to their children via the wearable.
According to Bloomberg, this device was called Seeker and would come with GPS. It was not yet clear what kind of device it would be. There is talk of a bracelet, a key ring or a clip. Bloomberg says it has seen the roadmap for 2020, which would date from mid-2019. This roadmap would list the Alexa wearables. It is not clear whether Amazon has moved forward with the project.
Seeker should have cost about $99 and work over wireless connections. Buyers would get access to Amazon’s Kids+ subscription for a year, giving children access to books, movies, series, apps and games. Parents could track their children with Seeker and communicate with them as well.
According to the plans, Amazon was working on multiple devices for children two years ago. For example, the company is said to be working on an Alexa-enabled karaoke microphone called Jackson. This device should have been released on Prime Day, but Amazon did not announce this device last June. Amazon is also said to be working on a Magic Band with Disney. This device would appear this year. Disney and Amazon declined to comment on the Bloomberg article.
