Rumor: Amazon to release wireless earbuds before the end of this year

Amazon would like to release wireless earbuds before the end of the year, reports financial news agency Bloomberg. The wireless earphones would have many similarities with, among others, the Apple AirPods and Samsung Galaxy Buds.

Just like those earbuds, these are wireless variants that users can put in a box in which they also charge, Bloomberg reports. Amazon would consider releasing them in black and gray. The product has been delayed and the company is still working to improve the audio.

The earbuds are intended to entice users to use digital assistant Alexa on smartphones. The buds supposedly work with the Alexa app on iOS and Android smartphones, allowing users to shout commands without taking the phone out of the pocket. This is done by shouting ‘Alexa’, claims Bloomberg. The earbuds have physical buttons to control various functions.

Amazon has not responded to the rumor. The web store has a range of Echo speakers for communicating with Alexa at home and has apps for Android and iOS, but has not yet made an audio product to wear. The Alexa earbuds should be available before the end of the year.
