Rumor: Adobe will release full version of Photoshop for iPad next year

Adobe is reportedly working on releasing full versions of Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere on Apple’s iPad. The version of Photoshop should come out next year and work cross-platform.

Extending its Creative Cloud products to the iPad is part of Adobe’s strategy to make software compatible across multiple devices, Bloomberg writes, citing sources familiar with Adobe’s plans.

Until now, the Creative Cloud service with full versions of Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere, among others, is only available for Windows and macOS. Adobe has released several derivatives of its full-featured programs for mobile, such as Photoshop Mix, but not the full-featured versions.

This should be the case with upcoming versions, and with the cross-platform support, users should be able to continue the operation they started on their iPad on their Windows PC, for example. The man responsible for the Creative Cloud at Adobe, Scott Belsky, confirms to Bloomberg that the company is working on cross-platform support, but does not want to give any further details.

For Premiere, Adobe already announced a cross-platform project last month: Rush. It is currently a beta and according to Bloomberg Rush serves as a test for the other Adobe programs. Rush is a video editor for mobile that runs on the same engine as Premiere Pro and projects on Rush should therefore be able to be edited further on the full software on the PC or Mac.

Adobe would like to unveil the plans during its MAX conference in October. Next year the new version of Photoshop would be released. The upcoming version of Illustrator would take longer.
