Rumor: Acer is working on standalone video cards with AMD GPUs

Acer is rumored to be entering the market for standalone AMD video cards. This would then happen as part of his Predator brand name. The manufacturer previously came up with two desktop cards based on Intel Arc GPUs.

The Chinese Board Channels reports of “rumors that a major manufacturer is about to officially enter the video card market.” This refers to Acer. Reportedly, Nvidia GPUs would not yet be part of the Acer video cards and would be limited to GPUs from AMD and Intel. It’s unclear exactly how reliable these rumors are and when exactly Acer’s video cards will come out.

Acer has long been using video cards for its Predator PC gaming systems, although these are Nvidia reference models only and not custom video cards. In that respect, the possible entry into the market for custom graphics cards and the choice to go solely for AMD is somewhat remarkable. The manufacturer previously also released two separate desktop cards based on Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs, namely the A770 16GB Predator BiFrost and the A380 Predator.

WccfTech reports based on Chinese reports that Acer would be looking with AMD to offer standalone graphics cards within the Radeon RX 7900 series. Videocardz poses however, that it makes more sense for Acer to wait for the upcoming midrange RX 7800 and 7700 video cards, partly because the GPU market is currently stagnant and there are enough high-end models available.
