Rumor: 2017 iPhone has glass design and amoled screen

In addition to an AMOLED screen, the iPhone of 2017 will have a glass design, according to an analyst who in the past often had accurate information about unannounced Apple products. Apple has already made two smartphones with glass backs in the past.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is talking about an ‘all glass enclosure’ for the iPhone, writes 9to5 Mac, presumably because aluminum is now in use for many more smartphones. Chinese manufacturers in particular apply aluminum to even the cheapest models, which cost less than a quarter of what an iPhone 6s costs. As a result, aluminum no longer feels ‘modern and fresh’, the site writes.

The 2010 iPhone 4 and 2011 iPhone 4s have a glass back, combined with a metal strip around the side. The devices before that were equipped with a plastic back, while Apple has switched to metal housings from the iPhone 5.

The iPhone of 2017 would also be the first with an OLED screen. Apple has already signed a deal with Samsung for this. It seems that major changes to the Apple smartphone would have to wait until next year. On the 2016 variants, the dual camera on the ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ seems to be the most spectacular change so far, writes 9to5 Mac. The design appears to be virtually unchanged.
