Room: Facebook borrowed the idea for its chat app from us

The makers of Room claim that Facebook borrowed the idea for its almost eponymous chat software Rooms from them. Room considers legal action if Facebook does not take its new chat service offline.

Room is a chat application that has been available for iOS since September. As the name suggests, it is possible to create a chat room in which to chat with others. Facebook launched an app called Rooms last week that offers similar functionality.

In a response to 9 To 5 Mac, the makers behind Room let you know that Facebook’s Rooms is a copy of the almost eponymous app Room. According to Damien Rottemberg, it is not a coincidence: “we do not understand why Facebook, with all its lawyers, has created an application with the same name and functionality”.

Room is considering taking legal action against Facebook’s comparable chat service. The social networking site itself has not yet commented on the situation.
