Room: entrepreneurs should be able to cancel internet and telephony more easily
Small businesses will probably soon be able to get rid of their internet and telephony subscriptions more easily. The House of Representatives wants small businesses to have the same rights as consumers. Then contracts may no longer be tacitly extended for a longer period of time.
The House of Representatives has supported a motion by VVD MP Bart de Liefde on the issue, the MP said know on Twitter. This should give small businesses the same switching options as consumers. They can cancel monthly after the initial contract period.
At the moment this is not the case for entrepreneurs: if they do not cancel a subscription in time, it can be tacitly renewed for a year or even longer. According to De Liefde, small entrepreneurs are treated the same as large companies that purchase customized services, but their negotiating position is equal to that of a consumer.
According to De Liefde, if small entrepreneurs and consumers are given the same rights, this will ensure that the telephone and internet bills of small entrepreneurs can be reduced to thousands of euros. The motion, which urges the government to take measures, does not only concern internet and telephony, but also other contracts for ‘standard products’.
