Rockstar releases its own game launcher for Windows

Rockstar Games Launcher was released Tuesday. Rockstar games can be bought and played from the software program for Windows. It is also possible to add Rockstar games purchased elsewhere.

The Rockstar Games Launcher has a cloud save feature and includes a Store page where Rockstar games are sold. Such a proprietary launcher and store could be used by Rockstar for a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Earlier this year, a reference to a possible PC version appeared in code from the Rockstar Social Club website.

There’s no concrete evidence yet that the developer wants to sell the PC version of its western game through its own launcher, but it would allow Rockstar to keep all of the revenue in its own hands. That in contrast to sales through a platform like Steam or the Epic Games Store.

Both digital and physical games from the developer can be added to the launcher. For now, the software is only available for Windows. It is not yet known whether the launcher will also come to other operating systems at a later date. Rockstar is temporarily giving away the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to users who install the launcher.
