Rockstar pushes Red Dead Redemption 2 to spring 2018
Publisher Rockstar Games has announced that the open world western game Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be released until spring 2018. The company previously announced that the game would be released in 2017, but the development team needs more time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the first game that Rockstar from the beginning develops for the youngest generation of consoles and, according to the developer and publisher, this is also the reason that more time is needed, the company reports on its official website. As a result of the delay, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the western game will not be available until spring 2018. Rockstar was already silent about a PC version when the game was announced and that version is not mentioned either. The first Red Dead Redemption never made it to PC.
With the postponement to the spring of 2018, Rockstar Games is entering familiar waters, because Grand Theft Auto IV and the first Red Dead Redemption also appeared in the spring. If those releases can be seen as an indication of Rockstar’s strategy, then Red Dead Redemption 2 should be expected at the end of April or in May.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the successor to Red Dead Redemption, which was released in 2010. The game told the story of outlaw John Marston, who was betrayed by his former gang members and teamed up with the authorities to bring his treacherous ex-accomplices to justice. How Red Dead Redemption 2 relates to that story is not yet clear. Rockstar has already announced that the game will be provided with a ‘completely new multiplayer experience’, but details about this are still missing. When announcing the later release period, the publisher promised to come up with more information this summer.
