Rockstar games also suffer from GameSpy servers going offline
The GameSpy master servers going offline will also affect Grand Theft Auto IV, Max Payne 3, and Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar Games published a list on Tuesday of how taking the GameSpy master servers offline will affect its games.
The list mainly shows that after the GameSpy master servers go offline, the Social Club functions will disappear from almost all games. Features such as leaderboard tracking and stats on the Social Club website will no longer work, and GTA: Chinatown Wars Social Club minigames will no longer be playable. It’s not clear if the Social Club features that are disappearing will be migrated to other servers. It is clear that Grand Theft Auto V will not be affected by the GameSpy servers going offline.
The Mac version of Max Payne 3 will no longer be playable online from May 31. The same goes for the PlayStation 3 version of Midnight Club: Los Angeles. The multiplayer features of other Rockstar games should work properly after the GameSpy master servers go offline.
In early April, GameSpy announced that it was pulling the plug on its master servers. Games like ArmA II, Saints Row 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved will also feel the effects of this. Publisher 2K-games already announced last week how the shutdown of the GameSpy servers would affect its games. The master servers, which mainly provide lobbies, matchmaking and leaderboards, will officially be taken offline on May 31.
