Rocket League and Gwent are ready for Xbox One and PS4 crossplay
The makers of both Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Rocket League are ready for cross play between Xbox Live and PSN. The first game likely to be playable between both networks is Rocket League.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game isn’t out yet, but the studio wants to enable the ability to play between both platforms when the open beta kicks off, CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwiński told IGN. Cross-play for Rocket League has already been completed and all that remains to be done is approval from Sony, developer Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham told IGN. According to Dunham, Sony only needs to agree and then it should function ‘within a working day’. Then it will take a few hours before the function is active all over the world.
Psyonix already stated in March that it had a method in the pipeline to enable cross-play. At that time, Durham said the problem was already on the ‘political level’. Rocket League would like a cross-play option because it would be “good for the game” to have more players and more competition. In March, it seemed that Microsoft is open to cross-play. Sony responded to be interested.
It has been possible since the end of May to compete between PC and Xbox One via Rocket League. It was already possible to fight duels between PC and PlayStation 4. While the feature isn’t enabled yet, Durham thinks it’s only a matter of time before cross-play between the two consoles is possible.
