Rockchip RK3588-soc has support for 8k60 video
Rockchip’s upcoming RK3588-soc has support for decoding 8K video at 60fps, according to the presentation the company gave at its developer conference. The system-on-a-chip should be released next spring.
Rockchip RK3588Coding of video is done with 8k30 via the separate Video Processing Unit, CNX Software writes on the basis of a presentation at the Rockchip Developers Conference. There is also support for two HDMI ports, with support for HDMI 2.1. The soc, intended for IoT devices such as smart screens and for Arm-based single-board computers, has four Arm Cortex A76 cores and four Cortex A55 cores, assisted by an as-yet unknown quad-core GPU from Arm of the Odin generation. It is probably an unannounced GPU.
The soc supports Lpddr4x and Lpddr5 memory up to 32GB, while storage hardware makers can get started with eMMC 5.1, SDIO and SATA 3.0. This means that support for UFS storage is lacking.
Besides cpu, gpu and vpu, it also contains a neural core for AI applications, as has become common in socs in recent years. Rockchip will support Android and Linux in addition to a Chinese operating system. The RK3588 should be released next summer.
