Neato Robotics will cease to exist because certain financial goals were not met. The German parent company promises to maintain the cloud services of the robot vacuum cleaners for another five years and says it wants to offer repair services and spare parts for that period.

The German parent company Vorwerk Group says to TechHive that ‘despite many attempts at restructuring’, Neato will disappear. The brand is said to have not achieved financial targets for several years. Vorwerk says Neato had more than 100 employees, 14 of whom will remain to keep Neato’s cloud services afloat for “at least five years.”

Neato was founded in 2005 and had distinctive D-shaped robot vacuum cleaners, with the flat side at the front of the vacuum cleaner. In addition, the vacuum cleaners received technologies such as WiFi and lidar quite early. The latter allowed the vacuum cleaner to map the environment.

Vorwerk acquired Neato in 2017. In addition to Neato, Vorwerk has other robot vacuum cleaner brands such as Kobold and Nexaro, the latter of which is mainly aimed at companies. The company says it still wants to focus on these brands and says it wants to increase its investments in the robot vacuum cleaner industry.
