Roaming data in EU rises to more than 70 petabytes after abolishing roaming charges
In the three quarters since the abolition of roaming charges in the EU, the amount of data Europeans consume across borders has almost quadrupled to an average of 72 petabytes.
According to the European Commission, there is a clear growing trend in data usage and talk time after roaming charges were abolished on June 15, 2017. Roaming data traffic has almost quadrupled since the introduction of roam-like-at-home. Europeans also call on average 1.7 times more when traveling within the EU. The European Commission relies on figures from the International Roaming BEREC Benchmark Data Report October 2017 – March 2018.
In addition, the Committee points to the outcome of a Eurobarometer survey, which shows that 34 percent of travelers like to go online via roaming, compared to 15 percent for June 2017. research have dropped from 42 to 19 percent.
