Riot Games removes Dominion form from League of Legends
Riot Games has announced that it will remove Dominion mode from its League of Legends game. The alternate game format was added in 2011 to provide variety from the normal game modes.
According to Riot, short cycles are a better model for alternative games, as the studio regularly does with special temporary games where the rules are different. Riot states that only 0.5 percent of players use Dominion mode, some of which are not even human players. This while League of Legends attracts millions of players.
Riot hadn’t supported Dominion for a while, and with so few players using the game format, there was no reason for the studio to pay any attention to it either. As a result, the game format suffered from more and more bugs and because new heroes and weapons were not created with Dominion in mind, the game mode became less and less attractive.
For players with over a hundred wins in Dominion, Riot will release a Summoner Icon that will not be handed out on any other occasion. On February 22, Dominion will be evicted and the associated Crystal Scar playing field will be removed. The mode may come back again as a temporary play form.
