Amazon subsidiary Ring has sent customers new installation instructions due to the risk of fire on its second-generation video doorbell. The company reports 85 incidents, in which the bell caught fire in 23 cases.

The recall began in the US on Tuesday, the government agency CSPC said. The company emphasizes that there is no problem if users use the included screws for installation. The risk arises, according to the company, if users have used different screws when hanging the bell, but Ring does not explain why. The video doorbell does not have to be returned, but the Amazon subsidiary emphasizes that it has sent a new manual with installation instructions.

It concerns the second generation video doorbell with type number 5UM5E5. The promotion applies in the US, nothing is known about Europe yet. It concerns a total of 350,000 doorbells.

Update, Thursday: It was not sufficiently clear in the headline and introduction that users do not need to return the video doorbell, but that Ring has only sent a new version of the installation instructions. The article has been adapted accordingly.
