RIM will release two new BlackBerry tablets this year
RIM is reportedly coming this year with two new tablets in its BlackBerry line. A 3g version of the current 7″ PlayBook should be released in April. A completely new version with a 10″ screen should be in the pipeline before the end of the year.
That reports the website n4bb.com. The Canadian manufacturer initially planned to release a 10″ version of the PlayBook last year, but put those plans on hold. The company is currently working hard on a new mobile operating system called BlackBerry 10. Most likely, the 10 “-PlayBook will run this version. According to n4bb, the new PlayBook will support the 4g network technology lte.
The first new tablet to be released is a 3G variant of the 7″ PlayBook, in April. It will run on version 2.0 of the PlayBook OS due for release in February this year. The update includes email, calendar and contacts apps, which removes the need for users to pair a BlackBerry phone for that functionality. In addition, the new version of the operating system includes an Android runtime. Developers can repackage their Android applications for the Playbook, with hardly any changes required BlackBerry Messenger, the company’s popular instant messaging client, will not be available until a later update.
