Ricoh equips Pentax K-S1 dslr camera body with ‘feedback LEDs’
Ricoh has announced the Pentax K-S1, a dslr in which the manufacturer has placed various LEDs in the body that promise the photographer useful feedback. The camera offers a 20-megapixel sensor and is equipped with an anti-alias filter simulator.
The Pentax K-S1 body, which will come on the market in twelve different color combinations, contains a number of LEDs on the handle, the mode dial and around the on/off switch. According to the manufacturer, the LEDs can provide feedback, for example when the self-timer is turned on and the LEDs ‘count down’ by turning off one at a time. Also, the LEDs light up when a different picture mode is selected and the LED near the power switch turns red when the video mode is activated. The LEDs of the so-called illuminated interface can also be switched off completely if desired.
The KS-S1 offers a 20.1-megapixel apc-c cmos sensor with an area of 23.5×15.6mm and a light sensitivity up to ISO 51200. The camera has a software anti-alias filter simulator with two modes. The filter simulator must prevent image disturbances such as moiré, but can be switched off if desired. Furthermore, image stabilization is integrated in the body and video images can be shot in 1080p result with a maximum of 30fps.
With the KS-S1 DSLR, Pentax offers a pentaprism viewfinder with a 100 percent field of view and a magnification factor of 0.95. As a result, the photographer should see almost the same image through the viewfinder as will appear in the captured photo. Ricoh has also provided the new Pentax dslr with a 3″ TFT screen with 921,000 pixels, but without touch functionality. Photos are written to an SD card, but the camera itself does not have WiFi.
The manufacturer has not yet released euro prices, but in the United Kingdom the body costs 550 British pounds, converted approximately 690 euros. The new Pentax dslr should be on the market in mid-September.
