Reuters: Qualcomm may again supply 4G equipment to Huawei

Qualcomm got permission on Friday to sell its chips to Huawei despite a US trade ban imposed by the White House. These are ‘4G products for mobile devices’, the two parties argue against Reuters.

Qualcomm supplies the chips for the more mid-range and low-end devices from Huawei; the top models of the Chinese company always contain its own Kirin chips. However, when it comes to those chips, Huawei is also having issues, as the trade restrictions also thwart the supply of software and tools for making those Kirin chips.

In addition to Qualcomm, Intel also tells the site that it has a license to sell to Huawei, although there is no detail about what exactly. The US Department of Commerce, which issued the license to Qualcomm, did not comment to Reuters.

Two weeks ago there was a rumor that makers of hardware and software were slowly allowed to do business with Huawei again, as long as those things do not involve 5G devices. This message seems to tie in with that.
