Respawn Expands Titanfall’s Skill-Based Matchmaking

Respawn Entertainment has released a beta version of Titanfall’s skill-based matchmaking system. Players can choose these via the ‘improved matchmaking’ button. The system should lead to more balance in matches so that players keep playing longer.

The developers have long stated that they keep track of players’ skills and connect players and teams based on that, but the functionality has now been expanded. In addition to looking at the skill levels of players at the start of a multiplayer game, there are now also interventions in between.

Instead of constantly playing the same team in a Titanfall session, the developer states that when using improved matchmaking, teams can also switch opponents as needed. When one team dominates the other, a substitution will take place: the winning and the losing team get new opponents better suited to their level. Players are not notified of this, so a replacement opposing team will not know that their new opponents suffered a major defeat in the previous round.

Players can now try both regular and enhanced matchmaking in Classic MP. Respawn promises to keep an eye on the balance and make refinements where necessary. Skill-based matchmaking is also a feature in the Halo and Call of Duty games, among others. In addition to improvements in this area, Respawn has also announced that it will send cheaters in Titanfall to the Wimbledon of the aimbot matches.
