Respawn does not want weekly updates for Apex Legends due to work pressure
Respawn, developer of, among other things, battle royale game Apex Legends, indicates that it does not want to release weekly updates for the shooter. This is partly due to the high work pressure that this would entail.
Respawn CEO Vince Zampella told Gamasutra this in an interview. Apex Legends came out a few months ago and became a big hit. The chief executive believes that this does not mean that the game should have more content. He thinks it’s best for his team to stick with the original release schedule. Zampella states that the goal has always been to release updates on a seasonal basis. He also indicates that the first season did not have enough content. In the second season, Respawn corrects this, but not through updates in between. The studio will present the first details of season two during the EA Play event in June.
This news came almost simultaneously with a report from Polygon that employees at Fortnite developer Epic Games would have work weeks of about 70 hours. Some developers would even work a hundred hours a week.
After the release of Apex Legends, the popularity of the free shooter quickly increased. Within 72 hours the game had 10 million players, then the 25 million player milestone was quickly reached and after a month 50 million gamers played the battle royale game. It is unclear whether the number of players will continue to increase. However, since February, the number of people watching the game on Twitch has fallen from about 200,000 viewers to 35,000.
