Respawn and Oculus to release VR game in Medal of Honor series next year
Respawn Entertainment is working with Oculus Studios to create a VR game in the Medal of Honor series. It will be released in 2020 for the Oculus Rift headset. The makers promise a full campaign and several multiplayer modes.
The VR game is called Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and it is the first game in the series since 2012. The game takes place during World War II and players are a secret agent of the US Office of Strategic Services. In that role, players must assist in missions; for example, by infiltrating an enemy base or helping the resistance. The game takes place on land, at sea and in the air.
According to the makers, it is a full-fledged triple-a game. Peter Hirschmann, the producer of the first Medal of Honor game, is involved as a director on the new project. The game is being made for the Oculus Rift platform, whether the game will also be playable with other VR headsets is not yet known.
The game will also be playable with the standalone VR headset Oculus Quest via the Link software that Oculus announced earlier. Oculus Link makes it possible to play games made for the Rift on the Quest, by connecting the standalone headset to a PC with a USB cable. Oculus will later release a special cable for this.
It has been known since 2017 that Respawn is making a VR shooter. Then Oculus announced a partnership with the studio known for Titanfall and Apex Legends. Until now, however, no details about the game were known. The companies have previously indicated that the game should be released in 2019, but that will be a year later. The game should be available in the summer of 2020.
