Researchers try to give Mario artificial intelligence
Many consider the classic Mario Bros. a fun game, but it can be difficult at times. What would it be like if Mario himself could play this game? German researchers are trying to achieve this by giving Mario artificial intelligence.
Thanks to the artificial intelligence, Mario can decide for himself how he gets somewhere or collect coins because he is ‘hungry’. He also learns things about the environment of the game and characters in the game, so that he knows that a Goomba will die if he jumps on it.
Mario can’t quite go through the game by himself yet thanks to the artificial intelligence, but you can already talk to him in the game. He gives answers based on his ’emotions’ and experiences. It is a project of researchers from the German University of Tübingen. What exactly the point of the project is is a bit unclear, but maybe thanks to the artificially intelligent Mario you will go less quickly in the old Mario Bros.
