The PlayStation 4 proves to be an attractive place for cockroaches more than other consoles. An American repairman says he receives a PlayStation 4 at least once a week whose power supply has been broken by hordes of cockroaches.

Local New York repair technician XCubicle is now charging customers who bring their broken PlayStation 4 in for repair an additional $25 to remove the roaches and clean up their feces. This repairman says he already has bags full of cockroaches that have been removed from the repaired devices. Other repairers report that at least half of all PS4s that need repair are infested with cockroaches. Kotaku reports that on the basis of an inventory at local repairers.

The PlayStation 4 appears to be an attractive home for cockroaches. The console provides a dark and warm environment that is often close to the floor. The ventilation holes of the console are relatively large and through these openings it appears that the cockroaches can easily enter. The heat mainly comes from the food. The heat can cause the cockroaches to melt on the components of the console, causing the device to fail to start in some cases.

Repairmen would then have to take the console apart, remove the cockroach droppings, renew the power supply, and reassemble the unit. Sony will not repair the PlayStation 4 in the event of a broken copy where the defects are caused by cockroaches. According to Sony, this is not covered by the warranty. As a result, users have to rely on private repairers to fix the cockroach problem.

The PlayStation 4 turns out to be more interesting for nesting cockroaches than the Xbox One. According to repairers, the console gets warmer than the Xbox One and the ventilation holes of Sony’s console are larger. In addition, the PlayStation 4’s ventilation holes are on the underside of the console, allowing the bugs to reach the interior of the device quite easily.
