Repairers: Samsung Galaxy S8 screen is cheaper than Galaxy S7

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is cheaper than that of the Galaxy S7 shortly after its release. That’s what repairers tell Motherboard. Due to the lack of bezels, the repairers think they will have to replace many screens of S8s.

Repairmen tell Motherboard that they’ve lost around $200 for a replacement screen for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. That was around 300 dollars for a screen from the Galaxy S7 series last year. Moreover, according to the repairers, those prices will fall quickly.

The high prices of last year were probably due to shortages of the necessary OLED screens. Last year it was clear that repairers could hardly get replacement displays, especially with the Edge version of the S7. Phone insurer SquareTrade called the S8 “very fragile” in drop tests, because the phone quickly cracks on all sides when dropped due to the lack of bezels.

Samsung released the Galaxy S8 last month. The phone comes in two versions, which differ only in screen size and battery capacity. The S8 has a 5.8″ screen, while the S8+ has a 6.2″ display. The OLED screens of both variants are curved on the side and rounded in the corners.
