Renders show variants Huawei Mate 30 phone
Renders have appeared of the various variants of the Huawei Mate 30 series. For example, there will probably be a Porsche Design version with a different design and a Mate 30 Lite with the camera island of last year’s Mate 20 Pro.
The Porsche Design version has a vertical stripe across the back that houses the four cameras, shown in the renders from telecom journalist Evan Blass, @evleaks on Twitter. The back appears to be made of a leather textured material, with a vertical element in the center for the logos and cameras.
The regular Mate 30 has a flat screen with a notch at the top of the screen for two camera lenses. It seems to be a regular camera and infrared camera for facial unlocking, for example. The Mate 30 Lite borrows the design from last year’s Mate 20, with a square camera island on the back and a fingerprint scanner below that island.
Blass put the renders online without saying much about the specs. The Mate 30 phones, presumably with the exception of the Lite, run on a HiSilicon Kirin 990 soc from Huawei itself. That is a 7nm-soc with optional built-in 5g modem. Huawei has already announced that soc.
Huawei is holding an event on Thursday to showcase the Mate 30 phones. The question is how the manufacturer works around the US trade ban. American companies are not allowed to trade with the Chinese manufacturer, so Huawei does not seem to be able to use Google services. As a result, users will not have access to the Play Store and to services such as Google Play Services, a service that provides location services in Android, among other things.
