Renders of what may be the design of the new LG G8 ThinQ smartphone have surfaced. It shows that there is a notch in the screen at the front, which houses a camera module with three lenses or sensors.

The renders, that EvLeaks published on Twitter, show, among other things, the notch in the screen at the front. This notch and the three lenses, which are not very visible, are probably necessary to accommodate the time-of-flight sensor. LG already announced a week ago that it will release the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone and that this device has a time-of-flight sensor.

This sensor can take accurate depth images and can also be used to unlock the phone through facial recognition. Such sensors work with an infrared laser to calculate the distance to objects. The LG G8 ThinQ is about the Infineon Real3 sensor.

In terms of design, the G8 ThinQ is quite similar to its predecessor, the G7 ThinQ. This device also has a notch in the screen and a dual camera on the back, although the two cameras in the renders of the G8 ThinQ are placed horizontally instead of vertically. Both devices have the fingerprint scanner on the back, below the cameras.

The renders of OnLeaks correspond almost entirely to images previously published by XDA-Developers. However, those renders did not yet show whether the LG G8 ThinQ has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Based on the images from OnLeaks, LG’s new smartphone will retain the 3.5mm connection.

Apart from the confirmation about the time-of-flight sensor, LG has not yet released any official information about the specifications. The new smartphone from the South Korean company will be presented at the Mobile World Congress at the end of this month in Barcelona.
