Renders presumably show Huawei Mate 9 smartphone – update
Marketing renders have surfaced online of the presumed successor to the Huawei Mate 8 smartphone. The renders point to a device with a 6 “screen and narrow bezels. A dual camera with Leica branding is visible on the back.
The Leica brand on the dual camera would be obvious. Earlier this year, Huawei released the P9 smartphone with dual camera, which also has a Leica logo. In addition, in the meantime, both companies have opened a research center to conduct research into improving smartphone cameras.
The renders were distributed online by Weibo user ichangezone. No rumors have come out of this source before, making it difficult to verify the authenticity. The renders contain no clear indications of a fake, but do contain indications of authenticity. The design looks like that of Huawei, but does not resemble any other device. The only surprising thing is the text above the camera. It is unusual for a manufacturer to print a lot of text there.
The size of elements of the phone in the render indicates that it is a phone of approximately 152x79mm in size, approximately the size of the iPhone 7 Plus. The phone has a 6″ screen of unknown resolution. Huawei has also kept the bezels limited. The top and bottom only take up around twenty millimeters, on the side Huawei has about 4.5 mm. the front of the screen.
Twitterer Playfuldroid also has information about prices and variants posted. The phone starts with a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for 3199 yuan, currently about 427 euros. That rises to more than 628 euros for the 6GB/256GB variant.
Huawei has presented at least one Mate device every fall so far. That hasn’t happened yet this year. If the manufacturer continues the pattern, the new Mate will be the first to have a new Kirin soc from Huawei’s Hisilicon division.
Update: Android Authority writes that Huawei has announced in an email to the press that the company will announce their next “flagship” on November 3. It is probably the same phone as the renders.
