Renders of cheaper Fitbit smartwatch appear online
Renders have appeared online of a new Fitbit smartwatch. It would be a cheaper and smaller model than the Ionic released last year, which costs about 330 euros. The new model should appeal to a wider market.
The renders have been put online by the Wareable. According to the website, Fitbit will release the new smartwatch in the spring and this is the model that the company’s CEO hinted at when presenting its quarterly results earlier this week.
According to Wareable, the new model is the successor to the Fitbit Blaze, which is a fitness tracker in the form of a smartwatch that costs about 200 euros. Last year, Fitbit released the Ionic, a full-fledged smartwatch that is currently in stores for around 320 euros. The new model would run on Fitbit OS just like the Ionic.
An anonymous source tells Wareable that Fitbit wants to appeal to a larger market with the new model and also want to persuade women to buy a smart watch. The Fitbit Ionic would be too big and have an unattractive design.
