Renders may show the back of the next-generation iPhone with ‘camera island’

Renders of what may be the back of the next generation of iPhones have surfaced. The renders show three cameras with a different placement and an LED flash with possibly six LEDs.

The cameras are probably staggered, because the size of the sensors might mean they wouldn’t fit on one axis. The camera island is located at the top left of the housing, where iPhones have had the camera for generations. The renders, that OnLeaks made for the Indian site Digit.in, only show the back in a dark version.

The camera island is reminiscent of the way Huawei has placed the cameras in the design of the Mate 20 Pro smartphone. It is unknown what the various cameras are for. Virtually all other smartphone makers have always aligned multi-camera setups on one axis. Apple itself does that on its iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X and XS.

Because Apple usually presents its iPhones in September, it is early to see renders appearing online, OnLeaks also emphasizes. According to him, the new models are in Engineering Verification Testing, a few phases for mass production. As a result, it is possible that details will change before Apple presents the new iPhones. OnLeaks is known as a reliable source for renders of unannounced smartphones. He often relies on CAD drawings from factories at, for example, case makers, but where his information comes from in this case is unknown.
