Remote access tool shows existence of Nokia Lumia 1001
The name Lumia 1001 was discovered in a remote access tool released by Nokia. It therefore seems that the Finnish manufacturer is currently developing a smartphone with that name, but details are still lacking.
The Lumia 1001 was discovered by TechCrunch, who used Nokia’s Remote Device Access tool. Allows remote control of Nokia hardware. A list of hardware is built into the software, including the Lumia 1001. This device has not yet been released by Nokia: the latest Lumia smartphone wears back number 900.
It is still unclear whether the Lumia 1001 will actually be released by Nokia. Although the device appeared in the list, nothing else is known about the specifications. There are also names in the hardware list of products that have not appeared on the consumer market. It happens more often that traces of smartphones to be released are discovered in software from the manufacturer.
If the Lumia 1001 is actually developed by Nokia, it is likely that it is a Windows Phone 8 device. Microsoft recently announced the new version of the mobile OS, which revealed that many things in the OS are not backwards compatible. It therefore seems unlikely that Nokia will release a new Lumia top model with the older Windows Phone 7.x.
Recently, the name Lumia 910 was discovered in the same remote access tool. A Lumia device with the same version number was also found some time ago, where it was thought at the time that it would be a European version of the Lumia 900. In the end Nokia just released this device with number 900 in Europe. A Lumia 910 may now be released, but as with the Lumia 1001, further details are missing.
