Game studio Remedy has agreed with Rockstar to make remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The games will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, among others.

The games are now in the concept development phase, so let Remedy know. Remedy will process both games into a single new game. This is done using Remedy’s own Northlight engine. It is unknown when the game will be released. No images of the game have been released yet.

Rockstar is paying for the development of the game. The games came out about twenty years ago. In total, it is estimated that more than 11 million copies of Max Payne games have been sold. Rockstar made another Max Payne 3 game around 2009.

The Max Payne franchise is known for its use of bullet-time, bombastic action sequences and dark detective stories with interfaces to the neo-noir genre. In each of the games, the New York detective uncovers major conspiracies within organized crime. Payne’s tragic past also haunts him; his wife and daughter were murdered by criminals. In addition to the shooter elements, the psyche of the character is often central to the Max Payne games.
