Remasters of Commandos 2 and Praetorians are coming to PC on January 24th
German game publisher Kalypso Media will release the HD remasters of the games Commandos 2 and Praetorians on January 24 next year. That concerns versions for the PC, the remasters will later also be released for consoles.
Kalypso Media reports that the PC version of the HD remaster of both games is scheduled for January 24. Versions for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will follow in the spring. The publisher does not give exact release dates for this. Only the remaster of Commandos 2 will also be released for the Nintendo Switch, Mac and Linux. That will be sometime in the spring of next year.
In June, the company announced that the remasters would be released at the end of this year. It is not clear why there is a delay. In an earlier video from Kalypso about the remasters, Android and iPad were also mentioned as platforms for which the Commandos 2 remaster would come, but the publisher no longer mentions a release for Android tablets or iPads.
The Commandos 2 remaster is being developed by Yippee Entertainment and the Praetorians remaster is being completed under the care of Torus Games. These are graphically polished versions of the original games, with updated graphics and improved controls, so that the remasters should also be playable on contemporary platforms.
Commandos 2 dates from 2001. The game focuses on a small group of elite soldiers who have to make life miserable for the Germans during the Second World War, including by infiltrating bases and sabotaging cases. Praetorians is also a strategy game; this revolves around the expeditions of the Roman general Julius Caesar, in which he eventually has to become emperor.
